Catherine F. Ries is Of Counsel to the firm. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation and taxation matters. Prior to joining Schiffer Odom Hicks & Johnson, Catherine was an Assistant Attorney General with the Washington State Attorney General's Office from 1999 to 2007. She spent several years as part of a complex litigation team handling the State of Washington's defense of class action lawsuits involving the state retirement systems. She subsequently joined the AGO's Revenue and Bankruptcy Division, where she spent six years representing the State of Washington's taxing agencies (the Department of Revenue, the Department of Labor and Industries, and the Employment Security Department). Catherine advised the agencies on matters of state and federal law and represented the State of Washington in tax-related cases, primarily in Federal bankruptcy and district court.
Catherine is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and is admitted to practice in Washington, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington.
A Seattle-area native, Catherine graduated from the University of Washington, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1995 with a B.A. in English and earned her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law in 1999. She is currently earning a LLM in taxation at the University of Washington School of Law.
