I was born and raised in Georgia. Seeking sun and beaches, I attended the University of South Florida in Tampa, where I studied philosophy and history and graduated with highest honors. Following graduation, I sought the ice and snow of Illinois, graduating with honors from The University of Chicago Law School. Being properly reprimanded by the harshness of Chicago winters, I again moved south, this time to Houston where I started my law practice with Vinson & Elkins, LLP in 2000.
After four years at V & E, I started a small firm, Bukowski & Upchurch, LLP, focusing primarily on small business start-up, litigation, and contract assistance. My partner took an in-house position with one of our clients, and I accepted a position with the highly rated employment and litigation boutique Ahmad, Zavitsanos, & Anaipakos, P.C. In September of 2009, I became of counsel to Schiffer Odom Hicks & Johnson, PLLC.
My practice consists of a broad general civil practice, including the representation of individuals and businesses on either side of the "v" in business disputes and tort litigation. I have represented clients in various state courts, federal courts (including mult-district litigation), and before arbitration panels.
I have handled individually and also worked as part of a team for various matters, including: employment (federal law and contract litigation as well as drafting documents), ERISA litigation, class actions, landlord/tenant disputes, condemnation matters, products liability, mass torts, medical malpractice, premises liability, contract drafting and disputes, personal injury cases, real estate disputes, bankruptcy litigation, insurance disputes, trade secrets, and consumer litigation. In addition to individuals, I have represented companies in the healthcare, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, energy, food services, and real estate industries.
I am licensed to practice in all Texas state and federal district courts.
